Speaker with AC adapter so make it work with DC ! :)

Make your AC speaker or sound system work with DC adapter. Easy!

I have Creative inspire 6600 speakers (I know it is old but i like how it sounds) and it has a nine year old AC adapter which have broken yesterday. This article usable for every AC amplifier or sound system which works with AC and you want to modify it to work with DC.

STEPS:
1- If AC adapter is not working put it to garbage bin. Otherwise keep it for other projects.
2- Remove mainboard from bass  (Remove all screws at back. It is easy)
3- De-solder or cut Bridge Rectifier Pack (images below)
4- On the mainboard solder pin 1to2 and pin 3to4 (images below) so you can use same power-in jack and same fuse on mainboard.
5-Screw back everything and use DC adapter 9v to 24v adapter minimum 5 amps. Do not use AC adapter again!
6-Most important!: Do not remove anything else on mainboard.

 Broken Creative VA-1450 13,5V 6A AC adapter.

 There is nothing to fix in here. So dump old Ac transformer to trash.

 Find a DC Powersupply minimum 9V Maximum 23V (24V is absolute maximum!!! Be cautious. Capacitors in this Creative 6600 max 24V)

I like to use adjustable PSU.
I set it to 13.20V DC constant voltage. And 5.30 Amp max.

In standby mode speaker uses only 5-6 Watts.




 How I made it work with DC adapter:


It is really simple!

Remove bridge rectifier pack and connect DC Negative to near AC and connect DC positive to near AC as shown below:

Remove RS602 or whatever you have as bridge rectifier pack in your sound system. (in bass) You can cut it. Or you can de-solder it...


Connect or solder left (-) to left AC /// right (+) to right AC pin. (Image below)

I de-soldered mine.( Will use it for other projects...)

Then soldered board as image below:

 Bridge rectifier converts AC in to DC out for speaker. So we will use a DC adapter and we don't need it.











Now you can use speaker's AC input jack as DC input jack (9v-24v DC 6A) but NEVER USE AC ADAPTER AGAIN USE ONLY DC.

You can use chinese dc adapters like this 12v15A (Voltage must be between 9v-24v and amperage must be minimum 5amps. Max isn't important. you can use car battert as well...)

You can use a sticker to remind you it is a DC sound system now :) with flexible voltage support out of the box !
